Problem
The annoying problem
Dark closets, pantries, and cupboards mean fumbling for a switch with your hands full. Lights get left on and waste power, or left off and you're rummaging in the dark. Homeowners want lighting that just works without wiring changes or remembering to flick a switch.
Solution
Motion Light Automation
Motion-triggered lighting for closets, pantries, and other dark spaces — lights on when you walk in, off when you don't need them.
Shelly is the platform — this lighting solution is the product.
How it works
How it works — stepped
BLU Motion watches for movement via BLE. A Shelly 1 Gen3 script switches the light on the instant motion is detected, then keeps it on while motion continues. After a configurable period with no motion (default 5 minutes), the light switches off automatically. No cloud dependency, local execution — and thresholds can be tuned to whatever the customer wants.
Technology: local Shelly script — standalone; Home Assistant / Hub optional
- 1
Step 1
Shelly BLU Motion detects movement (BLE, instant trigger)
- 2
Step 2
Script switches light ON immediately via Shelly 1 Gen3 relay
- 3
Step 3
Light stays on while motion continues
- 4
Step 4
Auto OFF after configurable no-motion timeout (default 5 min)

Notes & lineage
Why this exists
Closets, pantries, and cupboards are the rooms lighting automation forgets. This solution fixes it: motion in, light on, and it turns itself off when you leave — no switch required.
What’s in the box
- Shelly 1 Gen3, preloaded with motion-detection script
- Shelly BLU Motion, pre-paired
- Wiring diagram + install notes
- Test report (bench verification — TBC)
Installation
An electrician installs the Shelly 1 inline with your light fixture. You stick the BLU Motion on the wall or shelf edge with a clear view of the doorway. Done. No apps to configure unless you want to tweak the timeout.
Customisation
The no-motion timeout and sensitivity are documented and adjustable via the Shelly web UI. We ship a sensible 5-minute default, but happy to configure any timeout, sensitivity, or extra trigger logic the customer wants before shipping.
